Default Fs Earth Tiles

Hi,

Have managed to successfully use Fs Earth Tiles (FSET) with fsx. The current resolution of the scenery is 1 Mile (6,000 Ft.) , is there any way that the google earth tiles can be given a 3d enhancement, as below the required resolution altitude it looks absolutely flat.

Thnx.

Hi Swordfish,

Sure there is!

All you need to do is learn how to put "autogen" on it. If that's what you want to do, you will need to install the FSX SDK. I'll warn you though, it's not as easy as it sounds.

Let me know! I'll be more than happy to steer you in the right direction.

See ya, Am. Milt

Hi BenReclused,

Thnx for your suggestion, would the autogen also work for FS9, as i use FS9 more often then FSX due to the fps in fsx on an ATI HD 3450 512Mb card.

Do i need a different autogen for FS9 ?

Hi Swordfish,

The "autogen" is actually provided by the simulators. If you were to compile your "autogen" using the Flight Simulator 2004 Autogen SDK it might work in FSX too. It won't work the other way around though. It's still about the same process though, so you would also be prepared for autogen in FSX.

Let me know when you get it downloaded and installed. Then we can continue.

Also, I have started a blog and website dedicated to this very sort of thing. My current focus is FSX, but most of the information found there will apply to FS2004 and FS2002 as well. I don't have a lot posted yet, but if I can get Sharrow and Screwbottle (Hint! Hint!) to join my effort, I am sure things will progress rather quickly.

If you can get comfortable compiling autogen, I know of someone that might be willing to put you to work on his project.

See ya, Am. Milt

PS:
I'm using 512 MB cards too, but that's not what limits my FPS. The likely culprit is your processor. What CPU does your system use?

Hi,

I am using an Amd Sempron 3300+ 2.0 Ghz with 2 GB RAM, well it sounds interesting but time is a problem, i will surely go through your blog.

Hi Swordfish,

Your FPS issue with FSX isn't going to be corrected with any upgrades to your current system. That would pretty much require a new computer. I would say FS2004 runs pretty good with what you have though. I'm sure you will find it much more satisfying that FSX at this time.

See ya, Am. Milt

Hey Swordfish
I would not suspect your video card for the poor fps. If you look at my signature, I have an ATI 2900XT, older and lesser than you card (in some ways), and I run many modern games, FS9 (FS2004) FSX, FlightGear and X-Plane with no problem, and with very high settings and intensive add-on's. Your card is fine. If I look at your processor though, then I see your problem. MSFS's are very much processor intensive, especially FSX, so your system's weakness is the processor. The AMD Sempron is the same as the Intel Celeron, OK for business use such as Office, emails and Internet surfing but useless for anything decent in Graphics, much like Intel's graphic chips. It might be possible to upgrade your processor, depending on the socket type (AM2+ or AM3), and a decent amount of RAM (3GB to 4GB, no more unless you are running a 64bit O/S, 32bit O/S can only see 3.2GB).

Regards

Hi Milt

I see your "hint! hint!". What do you want to do. I'll try make some time. I am teaching myself land class and airport design for X-Plane at the moment, as I can no longer fly around my country looking at empty airports. We have a local bunch of people doing an excellent job of FS9 and FSX landclass and airport design, Aeroworx, and they were going to port this all over to X-Plane, but I am just getting tired of waiting, more than a year now. So I am possibly re-inventing the wheel, but at least it will be my work, and I will release it free under GPL. But this could take me plenty time now.

Thanks Guys,

Yes my CPU is the bottleneck. Looking at the AMD X2. As to the autogen with FS earth tiles, it shows a blank .bgl in autogen. When using the scenery in fs9 @ 6000 ft(1 mile) it is amazing. Can anyone help me with the autogen ?
