Default ILS Approach "Cessna 172"

I want to try auto pilot ILS approach flying cessna 172, but I’m finding that difficult. I have searched for guides here and in some other forums and have followed the instructions carefully but when it comes to entering the curse, I don’t know where to input the curse.

For instance I’m flying from KHRV to KSFO and I want to make an ILS approach and land at runway 28R. I got the frequency as 111.70 and heading as 283.
I’m able to navigate to the airport either through direct GPS or VOR. I’m also able to input ILS frequency into Nav 1 radio.
But my problem starts when I’m like 10 NM to the airport and between 3000 to 2700 ft, I then input the frequency into Nav 1 and activated it, I could hear the morse code, I could also tell by the display gauge that I’m below the glide slop but at this time I still have my heading hold on which was set at 289 from KHRV, altitude hold on at 2700ft.

I couldn’t see the runway yet but I could see it in my GPS and the green feathers indicates I should turn right and then left to be able to align with runway, I activated the Nav hold button, and disengaged the heading hold, hoping the aircraft would turn right but my Beachcraft baron started turning left instead, I just kept watching and it kept turning left just circling at the same place on and on and on.
At this time I paused the simulator and went back to the video guide I downloaded, I noticed that in the Jet panel, there were places where you should input: Heading course and Altitude to intercept the glide slope. My question is, was my aircraft circling because I didn’t input heading curse, if so where can I input it Cessna and Beech Baron 58? My second question is, with Cessna, there was a switch button for GPS/NAV on the top right, but I couldn’t find this in Beechcraft Baron, if there’s one where can I locate it.

You help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

If the aircraft was circling on auto pilot, it is probably because you have the AP set to follow Nav, and the Nav/GPS set to GPS, and the GPS has no course planned into it, or you are at your final position. E.g. when you activate it your current position is the location it attempts to remain at. Therefore the aircraft will circle this position.

Sounds like this is your whole problem, and if this was switched to Nav, and providing Nav1 is correctly tuned to the ILS things should go as planned.

Regarding the position of the switch on a B58, it is down on the main switch panel.
