    Default *Essential FSX Tweaks*

If you're having performance problems try this:

EDIT: Download this PDF : http://members.cox.net/spambait/FSXTweakGuide.pdf

    And try these:

Culled from the pages of AVSIM and other online resources, here are a few Essential FSX Tweaks which may make your FSX experience that much more enjoyable

    PERFORMANCE ADJUSTMENTS

    Autogen Tree Tweak

Created by Matt Fox, the linked files will adjust how autogen trees are drawn in the simulator. Rather than using a great number of tree types and sizes, Matt's file limits the species and sizes, thus giving the computer a lot less work. In the short time FSX has been available (pre-retail) via Best Buy and others, this tweak has become the de-facto "Must See!" due to it's impressive performance improvements. This is done at the expense of autogen diversity, but it would appear that autogen *density* remains at FSX-advertised levels. Be sure to check the forum discussion link for any more files or ideas replacing these, as they may go out of date...

    Autogen Texture Adjustments

Autogen textures are apparently made from DXT5 textures, which impose a bit of penalty as compared to other DXT styles. A few friends over at FS2004.com started playing with the texture compression of the autogen and found some performance gains.

    Cloud Texture Adjustments

As with FS2004, FSX uses aggressively sized textures for clouds in order to bring you a vivid flying experience. Unfortunately, the textures may be a little too big for some systems.

Right now, only one person has taken to resizing the cloud textures and providing them to the public. Although the modification and distribution of original FSX textures is most likely a violation of the EULA, here is the link to the thread this method is being discussed in...

    http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?...mesg_id=355657

Others have discussed importing FS9-based ActiveSky texture files into the FSX world, and have noted appreciable performance improvements with minimal visual problems (*if not visual improvements for those who prefer the 3rd party clouds) with them as well. You would need to have some knowledge of moving files and backing things up before attempting this, but it's out there.

    Autogen Building Roof Tweak

Also created by Matt Fox, the linked file will adjust how autogen roofs are drawn in the simulator. The file reduces the number of roof types used on buildings, which may lead to performance improvements in the same way Matt's trees adjustment did. Not much commentary on this tweak, as most feel that its the trees causing the autogen performance penalty.

Good find RoosTa - it'll be useful to a lot of people at the moment, with FSX running slowly on most systems.

    I'll make it a sticky

Cool! So far i can run everything on medium high at 20-30fps (locked) compare to low 15fps on medium low before.

So it definitely improved my performance.

Well... i don't know if this counts. But let me tell you my situation.

I just installed FSX lastnight and so far i am soooo disappointed I was really looking forward to it. Let me explain.

    I have a Pentium 4 3.04ghz with 2GB 533hz of RAMM, an ATI RADEON X1600 512mb PCI-Express Graphics Card and an 80GB hard drive.
As you can see... my system is not a MONSTER but it is certainly not bad.

I get from 25-30FPS on FS2004 (with my FPS settings at 35). I have changes soooo many settings and have not done much.
    I am getting right now 5 - 7FPS....

I don't know what i am doing wrong... as i said i just installed it lastnight....
    Help appreciated
    Thanks...

    try turning off:
    Light Bloom
    lens flare
    advanced animations
    aircraft casts shadows on self
    hi res 3d cockpit
    ground scenery shadows
    thermal visualisations
all land and see traffic, and all airport vehicles

    turn down:
    aicraft traffic
    autogen scenery
    scenery complexity
    mesh resolution
    texture resolution
    water effects (to LOW x1)
    special effects
simple clouds (or LOW coverage 3d clouds)
    screen resolution

If you have only a medium-hi spec system I dont think even the above will help, i JUST get 18fps with a fairly top-end system with all the above, and with all of the tweaks (except for the reduced files mentioned above, which I cant get as the links do not appear to work for me).

Whats your system Zarker. A fairly top-end system should get more than 18fps.

well - it feels 'top end' considering i couldn't get anything faster without going OTT (like AMD FX, or a quad sli). I have to add that 18fps (perhaps lower - like 16) is over a bi city in a thunderstorm. In normal teritory i get mybe 24-25 ( i have it capped at 25).

I got all these off the SLIZONE website.

    AMD AM2 dual core 5000+
    XFX 7950 520 GX2 (factory clocked to 570/1500)
    GIGABYTE GA-M59SLI-S5 mobo
    CORSAIR 20486400C4 ram
    160GB SATA2 DRIVE
    SILVERSTONE ST75ZF 750W PSU
    SUPERSPORT 5 1/2in EXTERNAL-CASE POWERED CIGARETTE LIGHTER ( )

but looking at the other thread in this forum, i think i should have gone for the Intel and ati solution

hello, i am having abismal frame rates aswell.

my pc is in the top 3 % of windows game advisor but i can only get frame rates between 15 and 17

    i have intel penitum d 2.8 ghx 1hb of ddr2 ram , 120gb 7200 rpm hdd and a nvidia 7600 gt.

they should have kept the xp and vista version totally separate.
ive done most of the tweaks what else can i do

    i have the deluxe version

Red, your pc needs some upgrades. Your video card is what's holding you back. Also, your single gig of ram is barely enough. I had 1 and upgraded to 2, its a new machine.
